NIHB-Covered Counselling and Psychotherapy

Trauma-informed, culturally relevant therapy for First Nations and Inuit adults.

As an Indigenous therapist, Brenna knows that healing is deeply personal, but it is also connected to our relationships, our families, our communities, and the stories we carry. My hope is to create a space where you are met with curiosity instead of judgment, and where healing can happen at your own pace.

At Cedar & Stone Somatic Psychotherapy, Brenna provides virtual psychotherapy for adults across Ontario. As an approved provider through the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program, eligible First Nations and Inuit clients can access counselling services using their NIHB mental health coverage.

A different way of understanding healing

Many of us have learned to think of anxiety, trauma, OCD, depression, compulsive behaviour or emotional overwhelm as signs that something is wrong with us.

I don't see it that way.

My practice is grounded in an anti-oppressive, depathologizing, and person-centred approach to therapy. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" I ask, "What has happened, and how has your nervous system adapted to help you survive?"

Our symptoms often make sense when we understand them within the context of our lives, relationships, histories, and environments. Together, we'll become curious about the patterns that have helped you survive while creating space for greater freedom, connection, and healing.

Therapy that honours your whole story

Healing isn't about fixing who you are.

It's about reconnecting with the strengths, wisdom, and resilience that have always been there beneath the weight of painful experiences.

I recognize that every First Nations and Inuit person comes to therapy with their own history, community, culture, and relationship to identity. I don't make assumptions about your experiences. Instead, I strive to offer a therapeutic relationship grounded in humility, respect, collaboration, and cultural relevance.

As an Indigenous therapist, I believe that healing extends beyond individuals. When we heal ourselves, we also strengthen our families, our relationships, and our communities. It is a privilege to be able to support that work.

My approach.

Therapy is collaborative and individualized.

Together, we'll find an approach that feels right for you and your goals.

Depending on your needs, therapy may include:

  • Brainspotting

  • Somatic psychotherapy

  • EMDR

  • Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

  • Attachment-focused therapy

  • Parts work

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Trauma-informed psychotherapy

My work is grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens when we create enough safety for the nervous system to begin processing what it has been carrying.
